River Carnival was held in Saint Petersburg

On August 12, 2018, as part of Saint Petersburg Marine Assembly, Moika and Fontanka water area witnessed a picturesque River Carnival showcasing Petersburg as the marine capital of Russia. The event was arranged by a Committee for Tourism Development in Saint Petersburg as part of government program for the development of tourism in Saint Petersburg for 2018-2023.
The Chairman of Committee for Tourism Development, Yevgeny Pankevich, and Executive Secretary of Marine Board of  Saint Petersburg Government, Tatyana Chekalova, officially opened the Carnival.

     

Teams from 18 Saint Petersburg districts took part in carnival procession of vessels, competing for the title of the best team as part of Carnival Motor Ship contest. Administration of each district arranged a thematic decoration of river vessels and presented creative programs on them, from acrobatic sketches to a real fire-show. Everyone could feel athletic atmosphere both in the air and on water. Football was the main topic for creative decoration of vessels to celebrate the World Cup.

     

Apart from river vessels, participants of intranational paddle boarding festival Fontanka-SUP with their traditional slogan “Sail in Saint Pete” became the real gem of the Carnival. This year, more than 500 persons joined SUP community, which is 1.5 times more compared with last year.

     

Besides, an extensive entertainment program was presented on the promenade along the Moika River. There were concerts featuring leading performance teams and showmen of Saint Petersburg, child contests, workshops of partners and mobile office of the Tourism and Information Bureau of Saint Petersburg.

     

The winners in nominations were selected by the Jury comprising famous personalities of Saint Petersburg in the field of marine and river transport, culture, tourism and sports. Kronshtadt district was awarded the Grand Prix.
