12 November 2015

Today representatives of “Passenger Port of Saint Petersburg “Marine Façade” PLC have attended the conference “Promotion of overall tourism products in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region” organized by the Leningrad Region Chamber of Commerce and Industries (the LRCCI Association) and the ST. PETER LINE ferry company. Among the participants of the conference were representatives of the Government of the Leningrad Region, the St. Petersburg Committee on the Development of Tourism, as well as representatives of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region tourism industry. The president of the LRCCI Association Kirill Polyakov has opened the event with a welcome speech.

During the conference a report on “Problems and development of inbound tourism” was made by the Chair of the LRCCI Committee on Tourism and Services, general director of ST. PETER LINE Sergey Kotenev. Reports were also made by the Deputy Chair of the Government of the Leningrad Region, Social Affairs – Nikolai Emelyanov, and the Deputy Chair of the St. Petersburg Committee on the Development of Tourism Rimma Sachunova. Participants have discussed the development prospects for domestic and inbound tourism in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, business models for tourism products and other important issues and trends of the tourism industry.

It was noted by the speakers that 2015 was largely more successful than expected. According to the information of the St. Petersburg Committee on the Development of Tourism in 10 months of 2015 the amount of foreign tourists that have visited St. Petersburg has decreased only by 0.08%, while the amount of Russian tourists has increased by 20%. One of the main obstacles to the development of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region tourism products is the lack of awareness of what the region has to offer. Concluding the conference, participants have agreed that one of the central tasks for the leadership and members of the Leningrad Region Chamber of Commerce and Industries is to develop a harmonized action plan and to combine the efforts of businesses and authorities for further development of tourism industry as a real economy.
